How to Get Paid Faster on Trade Jobs

Invoice before you leave the driveway
The single biggest lever on payment speed is invoicing on site while the work is fresh and the client is happy. Same-day invoices get paid dramatically faster than ones sent at the end of the week.
Build the invoice on your phone, hand the client the PDF before you pack up, and ask if they would like to settle now.
Remove every excuse not to pay
List at least two payment methods, include your payment link or details directly on the invoice, and make the total impossible to misread.
If a client needs a PO number or a specific email address for accounts payable, get it before you start the job, not after the invoice bounces around for a week.

Set a rhythm: a friendly reminder on day 7, a firmer note on day 14, a phone call on day 21. Consistency matters more than tone.
Keep every reminder short and reference the invoice number, amount and due date so the client can act without digging.
Fire the slow payers
Track which clients consistently pay late. If a client is chronically 45+ days out, either require a deposit and prepayment or stop taking their work.
Your time chasing money is unbilled labor. Repricing or dropping two bad accounts often beats winning a new one.
